Sony KD-55X85K, aesthetic and modern medium-high range television

Sony KD-55X85K is a model that I can’t finish fitting. It would stay, I think, in the mid-range, because it lacks little things, but, of course, it also has many others, such as the best version of Android or a crazy number of image enhancement technologies, in addition to its aesthetic design, to say that we are talking about a model that is not like those seen in any home.

Design and connectivity

It doesn’t take much looking to realize that this is a very aesthetic TV. Its bezel is black, completely flat and assembled in two parts, one at the back and the other at the front (with more shine) that join at the edges. We find that it draws straight lines but without being gridded. Considering it as a panel, know that it weighs 17.1 kilos and, most importantly, measures 711 x 1233 x 72 mm . You can put it like this on the wall if you get a 300 x 300 mm VESA mount . It does not have frames as such in the panel area rather than in the lower part, this being really fine and elegant. As you will see in the next point, the rear part is also highly aesthetic .

On the other side is the support, which ends up forming the television. On this occasion, Sony includes an adjustable stand with two positions for its legs . These can be installed in the standard way or the so-called narrow way (they are closer together). In normal mode, the legs are 106 cm apart; in fit mode, they join up to 45.8, being ideal if the piece of furniture you have is not wide enough. Be that as it may, they are two thin leaf V’s in dark silver . With them, the weight increases to 18.1 kilos and the Sony 55X85K measures 783 x 1233 x 330 mm .

This model enjoys consistent tuning in CI+ v1.4, DVB-C/S2/T2 and B/G, D/K, I . We do not know data regarding HbbTV.

On the other hand, there is wireless connectivity, which is achieved with both Bluetooth version 4.2 and dual-band WiFI and 2.4 GHz for WiFI Direct .

From physical connections you will see four HDMI inputs, two being 2.0 and another 2.1 . With this, a more than interesting support is achieved that includes ARC, eARC, VRR, ALLM and HDCP 2.3. In addition, Sony KD-55X85K has two USB connections , being able to use one of them to record content, CI slot, RF antenna, satellite, optical output for digital audio, composite video and RJ45 plug to connect to the network via cable.

Image quality and general functions

There is so much to be said for the image quality of this model. And not because it is perfect but because it is worked in multiple ways.

The panel is a 55-inch LCD with a 30-bit matrix and 8 + 2-bit color depth . Its resolution is Ultra High Definition , with 3840 x 2160p (achieving a good ppi density), and direct LED backlighting . Its frequency is 100 Hz native , although variable, working from 40 to 120 Hz on specific occasions. In addition, the television has the Motionflow XR system in 800 units , which helps to gain fluidity while maintaining sharpness and avoiding effects such as tearing or delays.

HLG, HDR 10 and Dolby Vision are the high dynamic range formats that the Sony KD-55X85K supports.

The built-in light sensor helps to adjust the brightness of the image, which does not remain fixed but changes according to the environment, always seeking to offer images that look sharp and with greater detail, without lack or excess of brightness.

We have 4K X-Reality PRO to enhance clarity, Object-based HDR remaster and dynamic contrast enhancement for contrast, and TRILUMINOS PRO and Live Color to enhance color and see over 1.073 billion different shades losslessly and from wide angles.

All the processing, in general, is done with the 4K HDR Processor X1 , a well-known processor from the firm that was ahead of its time and that now remains competent in the upper mid-range.

Finally, we have to indicate that the television offers us up to nine image modes to adapt these to each content.

Audio

Although the audio is not its best asset, the model has some things that I want to highlight.

The sound system of the Sony 55X85K consists of two stylish X-Balanced speakers of 10 W full range (bass reflex) and maximum clarity according to the signature that make up two channels. It has compatibility with both DTS and Dolby up to DTS Digital Surround and Dolby Atmos . Furthermore, by detecting objects it is able to optimize the sound and improve it in a process called room compensation .

Sony 55X85K software/smartTV review

Sony Bravia KD55X85KAEP is one of the models that includes the most advanced operating system that Sony offers so far and that is none other than Android TV 11 . It does so, specifically, dressed in Google TV , which is implanted in more and more devices.

You have 16 GB of memory to invest in downloading apps, available from the official Google store, Play Store ; Surely you already know that it is the most complete in the world! With your applications and those already included on the television, you will create a complete entertainment system that will allow you to enjoy games, audiovisuals, music… In addition, you can also buy movies and other content from services such as Google Play Movies and others.

In addition, the TV has its browser included, Vewd . With it you can make inquiries as you would on your computer and enter all those sites that do not yet have an app for the television.

Another option is to use voice search, which does not require a remote control button, to control the TV and its links, ask questions… Both OK Google and Alexa are available on this Sony.

Accounts with Google’s Chromecast service , with which you can see and control the contents of your small connected devices on TV. And if you have Apple products, don’t worry because it also includes AirPlay support , which has exactly the same function.

If you have PlayStation 5 , know that the model performs automatic HDR tone mapping, has, as we have seen, low latency mode and automatic image-by-gender mode via HDMI 2.1. In addition, the native 100 Hz is stretched to a false 120 for smoother images.

As more special points we find BRAVIA Core , Sony’s own à la carte content service that is given to you free of charge for a whole year, and BRAVIA CAM, which, if you plug in your camera (purchased separately), recognizes the elements of the space and, with it, optimizes image and audio. You also have gesture control.

Of course, you will also have basic options such as teletext, automatic shutdown or programming guide and some others related to accessibility such as audio descriptions, subtitles, text enlargement…
