Again at Smartxtv we bring you a new review of a basic range television, which does not drop, which in this case is the Samsung UE22K5000. It is a modest model of 22 “in size, with Full HD and 200 Hz refresh rate, which although it does not have the most “spectacular” functions or features that we can find in other larger and higher-end models, it does have a design, build quality and image more than acceptable for its price. In fact, given its convenient size with 54 cm diagonal and 16: 9 format, it can become a good option for those who want a computer monitor with good image quality, an affordable price and that at the same time can be used. like a “pure” TV without having to use external software or tuner. We therefore go on to tell you in more detail the virtues, also shortcomings, of this model.

Exterior design and connectivity of the Samsung UE22K5000
A simple but well-balanced TV
Our little Samsung UE22K5000 features a design simple but elegant, without flaunting noble materials or aesthetic stridencies. Has a 9mm thick outer frame in black plastic, whose lower edge is finished in gray with a finish imitating aluminum that gives it a quite distinguished touch. In the center of this frame, we can also find the Samsung logo in white, as well as a small protrusion on its right end that houses the IR receiver for its remote control. This receiver, as it is not integrated within the frame itself, breaks the aesthetics a bit, although surely you will not soon notice that it is there.
To top it off, it has a simple matching rectangular stand also in black, which although it is not excessively robust or heavy, more than fulfills its function given the size and low weight of this Samsung.
Samsung UE22K5000
If we look at the connectivity of this model, we will find that it does not have a large number and variety of connections available, but it does have the most main ones. Thus we have only 2 HDMI and a USB 2.0 port without Timeshift or recorder function (yes as media player). Yes, it has the professional, but little used, input of Component video Y / Pb / Pr, being able to use the Y connector as a composite video input, as well as a optical digital audio output and a headphone jack, the usual CI slot or common interface and an RGB input of Scart type 0 scart (although a VGA input would have been more useful for use as a monitor). Does not count neither our model with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a specific connector or internal decoding for satellite broadcasts (DVB-S).
Image quality and features in general
When it comes to image quality, the UE22K5000 has a panel 1920 x 1080 Full HD pixels and LED backlighting. It is not an advanced IPS or Oled panel, but it is that for the price of this model and the range in which we operate, which is the Samsung Series 5, you cannot ask for more. That does not mean that the image quality is bad, on the contrary, we are facing a more than decisive television that has a good refresh rate of 200 Hz and some image improvements such as the processor HyperReal Engine and technology Wide Color Enhancer from Samsung for enhancing colors and details. Yes, we have missed including the new HEVC coding standard in this model to be able to enjoy high-quality FHD broadcasts and that are included in other similar Philips models for example; yes, for a little more price than this model.
It has Wide Color technology
Perhaps the weakest section is the sound, since the Samsung UE22K5000 only has one output power of 2 x 3W (RMS yes), which although they will not be able to sound a large room, are more than enough for the daily use to which it is intended. Of course, it has integrated codecs to reproduce Dolby Digital Plus or DTS 5.1 sound, so we can make use of its digital optical output to connect it to an external amplifier or Home Cinema.
Finally say that it is a model with a energy class A With a maximum consumption of 38W and a total weight of only 3.1 kilos, base included, being easily installed on a wall using any VESA mount.
Software analysis and other functions
We are not going to find ourselves in this model with the Smart TV function or any other type of wireless connection via WiFi or Bluetooth to which we are so accustomed today by the main manufacturers, although as we have already commented previously, this Samsung UE22K5000 television It is framed within a segment and price range in which it is not frequent to find these characteristics.
ConnectShare function
Yes he owns the ConnectShare function from Samsung to use our television as a multimedia player through its USB 2.0 port, being able to reproduce (not record) the most common image and sound formats such as AVI, ASF, MP3 or JPEG.
