“What they sell is not real QLED”; here is the real QLED

This is the affirmation given by BOE, a Chinese ItO company that takes advantage, thus, to show its new 8K panel, which they affirm, is, unlike what we have on the market and, in many cases, in our own homes, a true QLED.

How is the true QLED that BOE shows us?

Apparently our TVs can’t be true QLEDs since their definition requires them to have no backlight assist. And everyone, the most and the least, have it. The backlight layer is at the end, covered by the dots and the panel itself, but it is there, and it shouldn’t.

BOE has now released an 8K panel that they say there is no such backlight for. This is because the technology is self-emissive.

This is how BOE presents its true QLED panel

This is how BOE presents its true QLED panel

Its panel is made up, in a much more complex way (but true to the definition of QLED), of a matrix of quantum dots that are electroluminescent. This is accompanied by an inkjet printing system that is applied to all layers, except, of course, the cathode. A TFT drive that works through oxide has also been chosen. This sum has been called AMQLED ( Active Matrix Quantum Dot LED ).

From BOE they explain it as the quantum dots are laminated by injected currents.

Of course, they are also full of praise for their panel, explaining that it has a very long useful life, that the color chart is very extensive and that this is the direction in which to move in this market.

With all this, it has been possible that the quantum dots of the panel are, truly, self-emissive and that they act as individual pixels. Thus, there is talk of direct competition with the OLED, although, in my opinion, and without having seen these panels work, but they look much better. Thus, I think they win on the street but, of course, the price will stop us, hence they are against the OLED.
