Design and connectivity

Hisense 55A8G is a very beautiful TV. It has very soft tiny frames ( Hisense considers it frameless) that outline the panel, leaving curved and rounded corners that seem to wrap around it. The casing is made of plastic, with an excellent finish, and a very nice dark gray color . The rear is done in black.

This panel has measurements of 1226 mm wide, 712 mm high and 68 mm for its profile . It has 18 kilos of weight.

On the other hand is your support. This consists of two legs made of metal and also dark gray in color, although not very aesthetic in comparison. They are placed in the center, obviously, and are 522 mm from each other.

With them, the TV ends up measuring 7 81 x 1226 x 312 mm and will weigh a kilo more, 19 kg in total. Despite being my least favorite type of support, I have to say that its weight and material, as well as the shape and the anchoring system, mean that, on this occasion, the TV is quite stable . Obviously, if you prefer, you can remove them and place the panel on the wall using a VESA, which will have to be at least 300 x 200 mm.

Tuning and connectivity

As we see in the following image, the television is well loaded with respect to this type of option.

We find, physically, four HDMI inputs in 2.1 with support for eARC, ALLM, VRR, CEC and HDCP 2.2 as well as to run 4K content at 60 Hz, a USB in 2.0 and another in 3.0, a 3.5 mm jack, Ethernet RJ45, one L/F mini audio input, double RF, CI+ slot, S/PDIF output and power socket.

As for wireless, Bluetooth 5.0 has been added and we also have dual WiFI to be able to access the internet without cables.

The model features full tuning, with CI+ ECP 1.4, HbbTV 2.0.2, digital, satellite and dual terrestrial and cable, and analog via NTSC PAL SECAM .

Image quality and general functions

Accustomed to more consumer models, so to speak, I am delighted to discover that Hisense also has the capacity and the desire to manufacture higher-end models that open up to a larger audience, as is the case.

Hisense 55A8G is an OLED TV , yes, OLED, not ULED. This one is 55 inches , about 139 cm on its diagonal. The panel, which is a UHD with a native aspect ratio of 16:9, offers us a ppi of 80 with visible angles without image distortion of 178º.

The panel has a full 30-bit matrix, true 10-bit color depth , 150,000:1 contrast (12,000:1 for static), and a very curious brightness of only 134 nits typical but peaking at 800 if supported HDR content features it. The Color Wamut range in DCI-PC3 is over 90% and it also features Wide Color Gamut .

In another order of things, it presents a quad-core NT72671D processor that is responsible, among many other things, for rescaling the contents to bring them up to 4K (or as close as possible). It is also a model, like almost all of them, with a double noise reduction system and this one also includes a 3D Digital Comb Filter to separate luminance from color and treat them separately.

We find support for HDR HLG, HDR 10, HDR 10+ , IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Vision content, which means that you will see any high-quality content without restriction.

As for interpolation, the frequency of the model remains at 60 Hz but Hisense gives the model 2300 PCI , that is, the specific enhancement technology to improve transitions in fast movements or very extreme color changes.

Finally, we find the Game, Sport and Filmmaker modes . Thus, the television will be calibrated to give priority to the processes that are most needed on each occasion.

Audio

This is a section that shows that, if desired, things can be done well in any company.

This television has a system of six speakers of 10 W each, paired in four and two to focus the audio in all directions (in what is called front-facing) and achieve, together with the rest of the specifications, an immersive sound .

These are Dolby MS12 , compatibility with Dolby Atmos, NICAM Stereo , which we are only used to seeing in this firm, and DTS Virtual: X. The TV also has an equalization system as well as support for the well-known AC-4.

Analysis of the software / smartTV of the Hisense 55A8G

On this occasion, the firm chooses to leave version 5 of its VIDAA U operating system on the Hisense 55A8G (consider that it is a 2021 model). It is not a bad option but considering that 6 is already available in many models they should, at least, give the option to make an update.

You will have access to all the world-renowned apps, so you don’t miss anything. In Spain, some streaming systems have also been highlighted with ATRES Player and all these similar ones from television channels, available for download.

The browser that the TV has is, for me, the great backwardness of Hisense, VEWD , although it is true that it fulfills its function, but it is not very much to my liking, especially if we are used to working with others such as Chrome or Safari.

It does improve things by including Alexa as a navigation assistant , with whom you can perform simple actions and ask questions by voice.

In terms of functions and other specifications, we support MHEG, Anyview Cast to share content from other devices, our own mobile app, Anyview Stream in DMP and DMR, hotel mode, parental control, programming guide for more than a week , teletext, Time SHift, adding favorite channels…
