We now have a new three-year warranty for devices and appliances

Since spring, the Royal Decree-Omnibus Law has been approved, in which new guarantees and other rights for consumers were included, and are included. One of the ideas was the extension of what is already the new three-year guarantee for electronic devices, digital products and household appliances.

What is the new three-year warranty for devices and appliances?

This is part of the two bases on which the changes in the reform of the Consumer Law are based. These are aimed at making consumption responsible and sustainable.

The new guarantee is nothing more than an improvement on the existing one in our country, which is two years. It does not change any other aspect or there are conditions.

The other point complements the idea of prolonging the use of these products. It indicates that there must be official replacement parts, that is, from the manufacturers, of any of these products, within a period of at least ten years from their purchase. In this way, even without a guarantee, the user should be able, if they wish, to repair their product up to a decade after having acquired it.

Be careful because for digital products there is a two-year guarantee. Here we would include apps, games, electronic books, office automation programs…

This is detailed from the official Twitter account of the Spanish Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

The entry into force of the regulations came with the beginning of the year. Thus, if as of January 1, 2022 you have acquired or acquire any of the devices described, you will have access to a guarantee increased by 50% compared to the previous one, being, finally, three years from the date of purchase. .

What do you think of this news designed to combat planned obsolescence so strong that it exists today? Do you think manufacturers will agree?
