How to sign in to Apple TV apps with Face ID or Touch ID

Apple’s WWDC21 has left on the table a good arsenal of company news that are to come this year. iOS 15, watchOS 8, iPadOS 15, macOS 12 Monterey … And as, tvOS 15. Precisely about the latter, we want to highlight today a novelty that, at the time of the presentation, went unnoticed but that has attracted the attention of developers who have already been able to test the first beta: the possibility of sign in to Apple TV apps with Face ID or Touch ID.

Logging into Apple TV apps with Face ID or Touch ID will soon be possible

According to the source of this information, tvOS 15 will get us to eliminate the use of passwords from our lives (at least, to a greater extent). In return, we can log into Apple TV apps with Face ID or Touch ID. This is especially interesting considering how cumbersome it can be write passwords on the TV, even if we have a keyboard connected.

The way to eliminate passwords is to make use of the biometric capabilities of the iPhone. Making use of Face ID or Touch ID directly on the TV is, in most cases, impossible, since no television to date incorporates a fingerprint reader or there are very few that mount a camera, but the smartphone comes to the rescue in these cases. When launching an app on Apple TV, a notification will be sent to the user’s iPhone asking to log in with one of the two methods mentioned, Face ID or Touch ID.

Synchronization with the television would do the rest and the response would be sent directly to the big screen, allowing the login in case the login was successful.
